Self portrait interjected... we were so excited!!!
A few days before this I saw a hint on facebook that they were going to have a secret show and got up early the next day to check it out and buy tickets. After 2 hours of unsuccessful attempts at buying tickets online, I wanted to cry. I then began the search for tickets, calling in any favors I could think of with no luck. My friend suggested I enter the Twitter contest which was sponsored by FuseTV. I entered it among every other contest I could find. I never win anything. I have been fortunate enough to see the last 2 Foo shows at Metro. On Halloween in 2000 and again in 2002. I have been hoping they would play Metro again for the last 9 years! The day of the show I was resigned to the fact that we were not going. Around 5:30pm I thought to check my Twitter account to see if I possibly won tickets, and saw the congratulations message from FuseTV. I was at a festival and started screaming out loud in public. I have never been so excited in my life. It was then a mad rush to get home, find a babysitter and head back into the city by 9pm. When we arrived at Metro without a minute to spare we saw the line that wrapped around the building and got into it without a complaint. The Metro security asked who purchased the tickets and I advised him that we won them. At that point we were escorted to the VIP line. A few minutes later the doors were opened, we were checked off the list, got our t-shirts and next thing you know we are in the front few rows of the stage. The Joy Formidable was an unlikely opening act but a pleasant surprise and put on an awesome set. Then it was time for the Foos! Dave announced that they would be playing the whole new album and I was so excited I could hardly contain myself. The show was amazing and someone got a little too drunk and dropped her phone into her Red Bull and Vodka as she was trying to post on Facebook about the awesomeness of the show. It was DOA but who cares? One of the best shows of my life. And lucky me got to see them again the next day at Lolla and get my mind blown again as they played through a monsoon like storm like I have never seen before. The epic performance of "My Hero" will never be forgotten by this girl who was ankle deep in the mud and pouring rain and loving every minute of it. It was an amazing weekend!
